A 98-year-old Woman from Kentucky Met Her Great-Great-Great-Granddaughter for the First Time

A 98-year-old woman from Kentucky met her great-great-great-granddaughter for the first time. The family took a special photo to remember the moment.

Cordelia Mae Hawkins, known as MaeDell, held her great-great-great-granddaughter, Zhavia Danielle, when Zhavia was 7 weeks old. Zhavia and her family—her mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother—visited Hawkins at her nursing home on February 19.

Zhavia is Hawkins’ second great-great-great-grandchild, but her first great-great-great-granddaughter. Hawkins’ granddaughter, Gracie Howell, said the family planned the visit, and Hawkins was excited to see everyone together. They spent three hours with her.

When Zhavia became fussy, Hawkins naturally took the baby, as she has always been good with children, Howell shared.

Howell’s sister, Sheryl Blessing, took the photo, which shows six generations of women in the family. Howell noted it’s rare to have six generations, and even rarer for all of them to be women.

Hawkins married at 16, remarried twice, and has a big family, including 13 children and 10 stepchildren. According to the family, she now has 623 descendants. Howell said Hawkins had a tough life but always kept a positive spirit.
