Wasim Akram’s Remark After Yashasvi Jaiswal Equals PAK Legend’s Feat Vs England

Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram praised India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his brilliant century against England in the Under-19 World Cup semi-final on Tuesday. Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 105 off 113 balls to guide India to a comfortable 10-wicket win over the hosts and book a place in the final for the seventh time.

Jaiswal’s knock was even more special as he became only the second batsman in the history of the tournament to score a hundred in a knockout game. The first one to do so was none other than Akram himself, who smashed 111 off 94 balls against Australia in the semi-final of the 1983 edition.

Akram took to Twitter to congratulate Jaiswal and also shared a trivia about his own feat. He wrote, “Well done #YashasviJaiswal on a wonderful 100. Only the second batsman to score a century in a knockout game in the U19 World Cup. And guess who was the first? Yours truly in 1983 against Australia.

Jaiswal, who hails from a humble background and once sold pani puris to make ends meet, has been the star of the tournament with 312 runs in five innings at an average of 156 and a strike rate of 82.47. He has scored four fifties and a hundred and is the leading run-scorer of the event.

The 18-year-old, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 2.4 crore in the IPL auction, has also impressed with his temperament and technique. He has shown the ability to play according to the situation and rotate the strike with ease. He has also hit 29 fours and 13 sixes in the tournament so far.

Jaiswal’s partner in crime, Divyansh Saxena, also played a solid knock of 59 not out off 99 balls and shared an unbroken 176-run stand with him for the first wicket. The duo made a mockery of England’s total of 175 all out, which was largely due to George Hill’s 58 and some lower-order resistance. India’s bowlers, led by Kartik Tyagi (2/27) and Ravi Bishnoi (1/28), were disciplined and effective throughout.

India will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Bangladesh and New Zealand in the final on Sunday. The defending champions will be aiming for their fifth title and their third in a row. They have been the most dominant team in the tournament, winning all their matches by big margins.

England, on the other hand, will have to settle for the third-place playoff against the loser of the second semi-final. They will be disappointed with their performance in the crucial game, as they failed to put up a competitive total and were outplayed by India in all departments.
